Language classes are a wealth for students to expand their understanding of the world. The key to effective language learning lies in student engagement. The quote from Benjamin Franklin “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn” is at the core of this language teaching approach. This workshop will follow this philosophy. This full-day session will look at:

  • Connecting students to languages
  • Starting and ending lessons
  • Student retention strategies
  • Presenting good reasons to pursue language learning 
  • Engagement inside and outside the classroom
  • Maximising time in the language classroom
  • TBLT activities
  • Having a balanced approach to lesson planning
  • Horizontal and vertical activities

  • Activities with exchange students at your school

About the Presenter

Maud Fugier-Sola has completed a Master’s Degree in France (French as a Foreign Language/English Language & Literature/Linguistics/Translation/ Civilisation) and a Diploma of Education, Australian Catholic University, Melbourne (LOTE, EAL).

Since 2006 she has held leadership positions including Head of French at an independent Victorian school. Maud has experience as a VCAA French examiner for the oral and written components and regularly runs professional development sessions for her colleagues. She has been a consultant for several educational books for French studies and has recorded a number of resources in French for aural practices.
