Middle leaders are critical to school improvement; unlike principals, who are strategically positioned to set the direction for a school, middle leaders are also influential because of their close proximity to classroom practice. Middle leaders typically lead an aspect of teaching and learning across the school, monitor and evaluate performance, and lead and build teams that implement change. They can help to create a focus on learning and contributing to the culture that supports it.”

(Professional Practice and Performance for Improved Learning: Professional Learning and Support for School Leaders and Teachers May 2014)

This quote highlights the changing role of the Middle Leader and the emerging skill set that is required to lead teacher growth. This workshop aims to up skill current and aspiring middle leaders.

Teachers will gain a greater understanding that;

  • Teachers are learners and like all learners they learn differently and come to the table with different experience and expertise.
  • There are some guiding principles around influencing and coaching others.
  • In order to lead others, you need to understand and manage yourself.

Effective Professional Learning meetings need to have norms and protocols
